Art Committee

"Art has the power of fusion. It brings people together, awakening them to their common foundation as human beings through its universal qualities. It creates a world of humanism that enables people everywhere to respect one another's lifestyles and traditional cultures, and to share with and learn from one another. That's because it is a world that respects and guarantees human rights." (Daisaku Ikeda)

The Arts Division, a division of the Culture Department, exists to support and encourage SGI members who are artists -- writers, musicians, dancers, graphic artists, computer artists, actors, stage crew, weavers, etc. -- as well as those interested in the arts as consumers.

Our goal is to use our art to bring people together and create value.

Arts Division activities include:

  • discussion and study meetings focused on the arts,
  • hands-on workshops (collages, origami, poetry, journaling)
  • field trips to museums and exhibitions
  • graphic support for gatherings or festivals (e.g., banners, props), and
  • in-service presentations (e.g., "Buddhism and the Arts").

Meetings and activities are open to all members and guests.
